GROUNDING & BONDING


This course will cover the NEC requirements under sections 230, 250, 210, and 550. Calculations will reinforce student understanding.

Article 230- This article covers service conductors and equipment for control and protection of services and their installation requirements.

Article 250- This article covers general requirements for grounding and bonding of electrical installations which includes:

  1. Systems, circuits, and equipment required, permitted, or not permitted to be grounded.
  2. Circuit conductor to be grounded on grounded systems.
  3. Location of grounding connections.
  4. Types and sizes of grounding and bonding conductors and electrodes.
  5. Methods of grounding and bonding.
  6. Conditions under which guards, isolation, or insulation may be substituted for grounding.

Article 210- This article covers branch circuits except for branch circuits that supply only motor loads, which are covered in Article 430. Provisions of this article and Article 430 apply to branch circuits with combination load.

Article 550- The provisions of this article cover the electrical conductors and equipment installed within or on mobile homes, manufactured homes, and mobile home parks.

Instructor:George Maloney has been in the mechanical and electrical construction industry for more that 40 years. After serving in Korea, George went through an apprenticeship program with IBEW, Local #24. George holds a Master Electrician license in Maryland and is presently working for the Washington Post. He is an experienced instructor in Basic Motor Control and Basic Electricity. He has taught for the Electric League of Maryland, Frederick Community College, as well as Prince George’s Community College.
